Your surgeon might schedule several follow-up appointments during the first year after your total knee replacement surgery to monitor your improvement. Your surgeon may also schedule periodic checkups after that.
Your exact follow-up schedule will depend on your surgeon and how well you’re doing. Patients are first seen within a few days after surgery by physical therapy. Physical therapists will see you twice a week for up to 3-4 months. I typically see my patient for a wound check after 2 weeks postoperatively and then in 6-8 weeks intervals after that to monitor your progress for the first 6 months. Thereafter annual checks are usually adequate.
That’s why it’s important to stay in touch with your healthcare team after knee replacement surgery. They can help you make the best decisions as you go through the process of recovery.
